A business in our school- Crafts
Justification of the didactic unit
“A business in our school” is a project designed to encourage the culture of enterprise. It will be a simulation of a real business to aid students understand the connection between their enterprises at school and their real jobs in the future. It will give the students the opportunity to discover and develop their talents and acquire new skills and competences in order to find the motivation to continue their studies.
Objectives
General objective of the didactic unit:
- To acquire the necessary information and skills in order to create and sell handmade products and make a profit.
Specific objectives
- To increase the sense of initiative and entrepreneurship
- To increase self-improvement and self-esteem.
- To discover and develop their talents.
- To acquire new skills.
- To develop cooperation and interaction.
- To develop their ability to put their ideas for making crafts for selling, in a right order such as:
- Find ideas for crafts that will be interesting, innovative and do not need too much time and cost to make
- Market research for materials needed in order to find the best price and quality
- Time and effort needed for the craft.
- Degree of difficulty.
- Decision for the selling price.

- Necessary skills for the creating process
- Accounting operation skills for the calculation of the outcome and income
- Specific vocabulary associated with the creatin process
- ICT skills - use of new information and communication technologies
- Contents of transversal treatment
- Education about th value of handmade products

Activities
- A businesswoman visited the school and gave to the students information about how her business works and especially on the issue of the creation and sale of handmade products
- Visit to a small bussiness
- An employee of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute visited the school and made an experiential workshop with the topic " Enterpreneurship in education : the sense of initiative and enterpreurship as a basic skill and key competence for lifelong learning"

- preparation of the handmade products
- advertising of the products for sale to the school students some days before the market.

Sheduling and Sessions
- 1º Session : Students are informed about the context , the objectives and the desired results.
- 2º Session: Students are informed about how an enterprise operates and makes profit
- 3º Session: Visit to an enterprise that deals handmade creations
- 4º Session:Workshop about how to create small school enterprises(individual tasks,team work,new knowledge about creativity, accounting, marketing, communication,ICT skills
- 5º Session:Discussion and exchange of ideas for handmade crafts for the students enterprises
- 6º Session : Starting the project implementation process
- 7º Session : Sale of the handmade crafts on the eshop and to the final fair in Cyprus
Methodology
Our methodology will be focused on activities in which the equity, inclusion and diversity of all the students will be insured. We will promote a methodology that will consider the diversity, the creative and critical thinking, the team work and collabaration, the developement of talents and skills as well as the effort, involvement, interest, dedication and learning of all the students
Evaluation
Continues evaluation during the process of implementing the project, considering what is going well and what not in order to improve and achieve the goals we set out from the beggining and have the desired results.
